What you are looking at is Japanese beetle damage to my precious hibiscus!  Yesterday morning I ventured out into the early morning heat (74 degrees at 6AM!) to spray the poor plant against its enemy invaders.

Having just transplanted it a week ago, I feared it might be too soon to treat it with insecticide, but the bugs didn’t really give me a choice, now did they?  I used a “safer” product certified for organic use, which I hope is gently enough for the plant, yet deadly to the pests!  It did seem to eliminate the aphids on my roses earlier in the summer.

For good measure, I sprayed the hibiscus’s cousin, Rose of Sharon, as well.
