Hello again, fellow bloggers! I fell off the blogging wagon last spring, but I’m hoping to climb back aboard again this year.
A leaning amaryllis is what has brought me back to the fold!I don’t know the specifics of this amaryllis; it came from a big box store and was just marked “Red.” This is the fifth year or so it has bloomed.
Because of its extreme tilt, I decided to cut it and put it in a vase. It happened to be Monday, so a perfect point of re-entry into Blogland for me! I’ve filled out the vase with some pussy willow branches from a tree growing on the edge of our cul-de-sac, and some forsythia branches with buds that probably will not open until the amaryllis has passed its prime.
I think it is a lovely end of winter arrangement, with the bright red petals and snowy white catkins.
Perhaps by the time the forsythia buds open, I’ll have a new amaryllis to replace this one in the bouquet. Maybe something that speaks more of spring than winter, I hope!
Many thanks to Cathy from Rambling in the Garden for hosting this weekly collection of vases!
Welcome back, Kimberley. Beautiful amaryllis — love the color. P. x
Wow, I would have been hesitant to cut such an exemplary bloom, although I know they last well as a cut flower too.
It’s more attractive on the table in a bouquet than it was in its severely leaning form! I’m generally reluctant to cut them as well!
I cut some years ago because it was easier than propping them up. I figured that they were near the end anyway. I was surprised by how long they lasted!
Really pretty Kimberley. Good to see you back too!
Very nice contrast! Sort of multi-seasonal.
It’s a good time to come back to the blogging fold. Your bloom made a nice arrangement with the pussy willows. Enjoyed your photos. The amaryllis I bought last fall never grew or bloomed. That teaches me to get one from a cheap, discount store.
Lovely you’re back! Hope you’re enjoying some warm sunny days in your garden this spring, as we hole up for a while. Best, -Beth
